2016 Latino Education Summit: Silicon Valley
The 1st Annual Latino Education Summit: Silicon Valley (LES) took place on April 30, 2016 at Santa Clara University. Over 500 educators and community members attended. The day started with breakfast from Santa Clara University's catering services and a live performance from Alum Rock Elementary School District Students. LES identified and discussed bold approaches for educating Latino students of working poor families in Silicon Valley. The Summit will consisted of nationally recognized keynote speakers, such as Dr. Guadalupe Valdes of Stanford University, Dr. Eugene Garcia of Arizona State University and UC Berkeley, and other academic leaders within Silicon Valley. Additionally, LES featured breakout sessions led by subject matter experts, a community-focused resource fair, and social media classes for students. Presenters shared research, evidenced-based best practices, and other educational innovations that have been shown to promote the success of Latinos, particularly for English language learners from low-income communities.
